A fever during the sixties and seventies, forgotten for a while, the velvet returns strong and classical, covering dresses, trousers and coats, emerging in a range of tones since the simple black to vivant red and hues of green.
Alexander Wang brought to his Ready to Wear Winter 2011, the reinvented velvet, in draperies lovable dresses in thin velvet or strong clean shapes in thicker. Skinny trousers, unstructured coats and short little dresses took place and the romantic baroque style undresses shoulders and delineated the neckline in round shapes. The asymmetrical forms were contrasted by the geometrical cuts giving to the velvet a different view.

The brand developed feminine velvet blazers matched with shorts in the same material, short dresses in straight lines and fluid blouses with were a combination of velvet and lightweight fabrics, giving movement and finesse. In Dolce & Gabanna hands, the material gained another connotation, being instead of kitsch, a wishful fabric.
If the velvet returns in streets, that’s another talk, but we can say it is inspiring many designer around the world.
